Is it possible to bring our innate authority to teaching?
In this section we consider the relationship between the professional teacher and society’s current system of education.
We explore how it is possible to bring true authority as a teacher while we are enmeshed in a vast range and scope of activity. This activity includes our own educational responsibilities, as well as societal and parental expectations, and the political and media influences that impact teaching every single day.
Within this circle of intense activity, we suggest that we could be allocating equal value to the extensive qualities and authority that each teacher uniquely brings to their role.
Is the teaching profession ready for this upgrade?
How would it be if we teachers located ourselves at the centre of this circle of daily activity? From this centre we then build the true authority of the teacher and express this throughout all the activity associated with teaching and learning, including pedagogy, curriculum and behaviour management.
