Historically, our models of education respond and react to a complex fusion of factors, namely to politics, industry, the economy, academic theory and philosophy, as well as to our ideals, beliefs and pictures about childhood and children's development. Because of this we have rarely, if ever, had a model of education that nurtures the truth and wholeness of our being.
These pages review and evaluate the effectiveness of the models we have experienced to date – everything from Plato’s Academy to IQ testing to an assessment driven curriculum. The range of questions we pose and consider delve into the many aspects that constitute the true foundation of education. We consider the possibility that we may need to return to a way of being we left behind in order to move into our true educational future.
